Welcome to the International The next International Black Panther Film Festival (IBPFF) will be in 2005. The IBPFF is a New York City based event. Previous festivals were hosted at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture during the two-day premiere year (April 7-8, 2000), again at the Schomburg and also at Columbia University's Miller Theatre for the four-day second festival in 2001 (May 3 -6. 2001), and at City University of New York's (CUNY) Aaron Davis Hall and Columbia University's Roone Arledge Theater for the four-day festival in 2003 (July 31 - August 3). In 2001, a pre-festival book signing took place at the Studio Museum in Harlem. In 2003, a post-festival book signing took place at the Studio Museum in Harlem. At the 2003 festival, actor and activist Danny Glover returned as honorary chairperson. Glover served as the festival's first honorary chairperson during the 2001 film festival. In April 2000, May 2001 and July-August 2003, hundreds of festival goers saw films from around the world that captured the powerful images of the Black Panther Party as well as The Young Lords, The Latin King & Queen Nation (Latin Kings), the Zapatista Movement, the American Indian Movement, the Hip Hop movement, and other cultural and liberation struggles. There were screenings of films and videos, dating 1968-2003, and panel discussions with the filmmakers, former Panthers, and hip hop artists. In June 2002, hundreds attended the IBPFF's first mini-festival called "Panther Film Fest - New Haven" (in Connecticut). |
